WESTAF Update Notes #67 | December 2011
From Anthony Radich, Executive Director
This is the 67th in a continuing series of updates about the work of WESTAF
Next WESTAF Cultural Policy Symposium Announced
WESTAF’s 14th gathering of arts and policy experts will convene in Los Angeles, April 12-14, 2012. Symposium topics will include: data visualization in the arts, evaluation of methods for measuring the economic impact of the arts, and international approaches to creative economy research and policy. A full symposium description will be issued in January. Observers are welcome to attend but must register in advance by contacting Leah Horn at leah.horn@westaf.org or by calling (303) 629-1166.
The Public Art Archive’s™ New Collection Showcase Page
The Public Art Archive’s newest feature, the customizable Collection Showcase Page, allows agencies to highlight their public art collections while giving visitors a portal to explore collections independently of the rest of the Archive. Agencies can create and update a slide show on the fly, customize content headings and descriptions, and upload their own content such as brochures and fliers. They can even embed audio and video content from third-party sites such as Vimeo and YouTube. Collections are displayed on a Google map, enabling visitors to get directions, save, link, or e-mail the map. For additional information or to schedule a demonstration, please contact PAA™ project manager Rachel Cain at rachel.cain@westaf.org.
WESTAF Arts Leadership and Advocacy Seminar in Washington DC
On December 5-7, 2011, WESTAF will host a convening of its board, the region’s state arts agency chairs, executive directors, and state advocacy leaders. The seminar will include briefings from national arts organizations and in-person meetings with elected officials. More than 55 leaders will participate in the three-day meeting, which will kick off with a presentation by political strategist Matthew Dowd.
Coming Soon: ZAPP® Onsite
The ZAPP® team is preparing to launch an on-site adjudication tool available to users of the ZAPP® system that allows judges at art festivals to walk the show and score each booth on an iPad or other tablet device. Adjudicators can view an event map and sort by medium, booth number, or artist name. On-site scores can be viewed online or exported for easy record keeping. The application is slated for a winter launch. Events interested in learning more should contact ZAPP® Program Manager Leah Charney at leah.charney@westaf.org.
