Creative West Welcomes Caleb Rainey as Director of Development

May 15, 2025

After an extensive and competitive nationwide search, on April 28, Creative West welcomed Caleb Rainey (he/him) as the organization’s first-ever Director of Development!

Rainey, based in San Diego, joins the Leadership Resource Team and will work closely with the President and CEO, Deputy Director, and board of trustees to lead Creative West’s fund development strategy. His responsibilities include securing key resources for the organization’s mission and managing foundation grants, major gifts, individual contributions, planned giving, corporate sponsorships, and capital campaigns.

Rainey joins Creative West with more than 10 years of experience in philanthropy and nonprofit programming, having successfully led fundraising initiatives for both local and national organizations, focusing on arts and culture, racial justice, climate change, higher education, and more. Rainey’s expertise spans major gifts, campaigns, grants, and corporate partnerships. He holds a master’s degree in cultural studies from San Diego State University and is strongly committed to diversity, equity, and inclusion.

“As someone who believes firmly in the power and possibility of art and culture, I am thrilled to be joining an organization as storied and impactful as Creative West,” Rainey said. “Creative West is well-prepared to meet this moment for arts and cultural practitioners and organizations across the region in ways that are intentional, comprehensive, and equitable, and I could not be more excited to be joining the team as the inaugural development director.”

We are thrilled to have Rainey on the team and look forward to the contributions he will bring. Stay connected with Creative West as his role takes shape and we enhance our ability to strengthen the arts and culture community through this new area of work under Rainey’s leadership.
