WESTAF Update Notes #93 | July 2017
From Anthony Radich, Executive Director
This is the 93rd in a continuing series of updates about the work of WESTAF.
CVSuite™ Now Helps Measure the Diversity of Your Creative Economy
The addition of ethnicity data is a recent important enhancement to WESTAF’s Creative Vitality™ Suite creative economy data tool. Users of the tool can now use it to identify the ethnic makeup of workers in various creative industries and to compare those findings to the ethnic makeup of the geographic populations in which the creative occupations are located. How inclusive is your creative sector? Which creative occupation has the most diverse workforce, and which has the least diverse? What are the corresponding wages of these creative occupations? These are questions that can now be answered using WESTAF’s Creative Vitality Suite data tool. For more information about how to access the tool, contact Susan Gillespie at susan.gillespie@westaf.org or call her at 303-629-1166.
WESTAF Executive Search Services
WESTAF has recently added executive search services to its offerings. WESTAF’s work in this area is limited to state and local arts agencies, national and regional arts service organizations, and arts organizations rooted in communities of color. After managing its first executive search for a major city arts agency in 2006, WESTAF has managed or provided assistance to several state, local, and national arts and culture organizations seeking new leadership. In the next 10 years, the arts and culture field will undergo a major change in personnel as the Baby Boomers depart active work. Through this service, WESTAF can play a positive role in the upcoming change by offering high-quality, targeted searches.
Recruiting for 2017 Emerging Leaders of Color Program
WESTAF is currently seeking participants for its sixth annual Emerging Leaders of Color Professional Development program to be held November 13-15, 2017 in Denver. Established in 2010 to promote multicultural leadership and equity in the arts, the program is organized by Chrissy Deal, manager of WESTAF’s Multicultural Initiatives. The curriculum has been developed and will be delivered by Margie Johnson Reese, who is a long-time national arts leader; Salvador Acevedo, vice president of Strategy for the San Francisco-based innovation strategy consulting firm Scansion; and Tamara Alvarado, Executive Director of the School of Art and Culture at the Mexican Heritage Plaza in San Jose. Candidates must reside in the 13-state WESTAF region, be under the age of 35, have no more than 10 years of experience working in the arts, and self-identify as a person of color. Applicants will be notified of a decision in September, 2017. Selected participants are invited to attend the program at no cost, and travel and lodging expenses are paid by WESTAF. Online applications and accompanying endorsements must be received by Thursday, August 31, 2017. For information about additional requirements and to apply, please visit www.westaf.org/ELC17.
