WESTAF Update Notes #58 | July 2009
Mai Anthony Radich, Luna Hoʻokele
This is the 58th in a continuing series of updates about the work of WESTAF
Location and Dates Selected for the 2009 WESTAF Symposium
The next WESTAF symposium will convene at the Aspen Meadows Resort, home of the Aspen Institute, in Aspen, Colorado, from Thursday, October 15, through Saturday, October 17, 2009. Topics for this year’s symposium include: developing a new generation of arguments in support of public arts funding; ways the arts field can adapt to the evolving arts preferences of the public; ways state arts agencies can be redesigned to succeed in a very different environment; and a review of the available research that arts advocates have used to make a case for the arts. While space for observers is limited, the symposium will be open to anyone interested in attending. Contact Erin Bassity at WESTAF (erin.bassity@westaf.org) for more information regarding symposium attendance.
2008 Symposium Proceedings Excerpt on Film Incentives Now Available
Because of the high level of state legislative activity in the area of film incentives, and due to high demand for the information, WESTAF is issuing an early release of the film segment of its Fall 2008 symposium on the creative economy. The segment presents both sides of the discussion regarding the value and impact of these incentives. The full proceedings of the symposium will be available in both print and electronic form early this fall. Contact Erin Bassity at WESTAF (erin.bassity@westaf.org) for more information.
CGO™ Special Offer to State and Urban Agencies for Stimulus Funds Distribution
As the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) continues to manage stimulus funds set aside for arts and culture, many state and local arts arts agencies are faced with the requirement to quickly structure a process for administering funds distribution. To address this need, WESTAF has made a special one-time license available to state and local agencies for the use of its online grant management system, CultureGrants Online™ (CGO™) for the distribution of federal stimulus funds. This one-time use of the CGO™ system has been made available at no cost to the state arts agencies within WESTAF’s territory and at a minimal cost to other state and local agencies.
