Welcoming Two Remarkable Arts Leaders to Our Board

March 27, 2026

Guiding an arts organization through shifting cultural landscapes requires thoughtful reflection, transparent leadership, and a deep understanding of the communities we serve. As we look toward the future, we continue to foster open dialogue and build genuine connections.

To help us navigate these nuances and advance our mission, we are honored to announce the appointment of two remarkable leaders to our Board of Trustees: Laurel Cannon Alder and Laura Curry.

Introducing: Laura Curry

Laura Curry joined the Idaho Commission on the Arts as executive director in 2023, where she recently led a statewide listening tour to inform the agency’s new strategic plan and connect with local creators. With more than a decade of leadership experience, including guiding Ballet Idaho through the pandemic, she has a strong track record of steering organizations toward greater impact. Curry’s commitment to responsive, transparent leadership aligns with our core values and dedication to elevating the arts sector.

Introducing: Laurel Cannon Alder

Laurel Cannon Alder brings three decades of forward-thinking experience in Utah’s arts and nonprofit sectors and currently serves as deputy director for the Salt Lake City Arts Council. Her career includes overseeing a $7.5 million grant budget for the Utah Division of Arts & Museums and empowering local leaders to achieve their strategic goals. Cannon Alder’s steady, collaborative approach to building partnerships will be a vital asset as we explore new avenues for community support and grassroots development.

Both leaders bring exceptional expertise, an authentic approach to leadership, and a shared dedication to expanding access to the arts. Their unique perspectives will be invaluable as we work to empower creative communities across the West.
